Success Story: Graphic Design Student Caitlin Murphy

By Phill Powell

We haven’t seen the last of graphic design student Caitlin Murphy, and that’s great news!

Last June, Caitlin attended our graphic design tech camp at Austin, Texas. The 14-year-old enjoyed instructor Steven Donovan’s class so much that, on an end-of-camp survey, she awarded DMA the highest score possible for “overall camp experience”!

Caitlin says her DMA experience has improved her performance in tech classes back at school!

And now we learn she’s planning on returning to DMA this coming summer!

Here’s what she says about last summer at DMA:

THE DMA INTERVIEW: DMA GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENT CAITLIN MURPHY

Caitlin, what did you actually create at DMA?
At DMA tech camp I created many unique and different things for my graphic design portfolio! I created a mock website using Adobe Photoshop and a mock business card using Adobe Illustrator, as well as recreating other things, such as different logos and designs.

How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final project?
After completing my final project I felt overwhelmed with pride and satisfaction! I was so proud of myself that I had learned to use Photoshop and Illustrator in a short period of time, and finished with unique designs and an ability to use the programs to feed my full potential.

So what do you think were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
Learning new things about the programs used and meeting new people who had the same interests as me was by far the most fun thing about attending DMA tech camp. I also really enjoyed the freedom and independence I had, both on breaks and in the classroom.

What I learned at DMA tech camp has really helped me excel at the technology classes offered at my school.

Did you make friends at DMA camp this summer?
I made a few friends at DMA tech camp, which was super-neat. I got to know people who had similar interests as me. I am glad I met these girls because it made me realize that yes, there are many different people out there who have the same interests and hobbies as me!

Have you been using what you learned at DMA back at school?
Yes, what I learned at DMA tech camp has really helped me excel at the technology classes offered at my school. I have taken my skills to the next level, and am one of the more experienced people at my school with the programs we used, because of DMA tech camp!

Would you like to return to DMA next summer?
I definitely want to come back to DMA tech camp this summer! It was so fun and engaging. I would love to learn more about other DMA programs when I go back!

Would you suggest DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
I would absolutely suggest DMA to both my friends and their parents! DMA is a great camp that lets you be hands-on and independent, while also learning new things! In fact, I have recommended DMA tech camp to many of my friends and their parents. You might see us this coming camp session!

Were your parents pleased with your DMA experience?
Yes, my parents were so proud of me and what I accomplished and learned for my experience at DMA tech camp. They were very pleased with my experience and think it is great that I have found a camp that I like and can enjoy!
