DMA SUCCESS STORY: Game Design Whiz Adam Spera

By Phill Powell

Working on a Minecraft energy exchange system revved up the subject of this DMA Success Story.

Adam Spera, a 12-year-old from Horsham, Penn., spent part of July at DMA’s Bryn Mawr tech camps.

Adam gave DMA a 5-star rating for “overall camp experience” as part of an end-of-camp survey.

We learned from talking to Adam that he really liked getting some time to tour the gorgeous Bryn Mawr campus, and we were very pleased to hear that he’ll be returning for more of the DMA tech-camp experience this summer.

But even more than that, we were excited to hear that when Adam joined a coding club at school, he found the coding very easy, thanks to what he picked up at DMA this past summer.

But, hey, let’s let him tell it:

THE DMA INTERVIEW: ADAM SPERA

You took one of our Minecraft modding tech camps. What did you actually create at DMA?
A Minecraft mod that included an energy exchange system.

How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final project?
I felt very confident and excited to learn more in the future.

It was very easy, due to the level of coding that I was taught at DMA.

What were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
I loved how the instructors were very open to questions and they broke up the day and kept everyone engaged. I also liked that students in my age group were allowed to walk around the campus on break.

Did you make friends at DMA camp this summer?
I made three friends at the camp.

Sounds like you had a great time. Are you interested in returning to DMA next summer?
I would very much like to attend another camp. We are now trying to determine which one to take.

Do you think you’ll use what you learned at DMA when you’re back at your regular school?
I attended a coding club in the first semester of my school this year. I felt that it was very easy, due to the level of coding that I was taught at DMA.

Would you suggest DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
I would recommend DMA to my friends and their parents.

How do your parents feel about your session at DMA?
My Mom and Dad were very pleased with the things I learned and the overall experience.

SUMMER’S JUST AROUND THE CORNER…

Summer will be here before you know it. This year, why not join Adam at one of the terrific DMA tech camp locations across the U.S. and Canada?

There are new DMA camps for 2016 that have been added to complement the celebrated tech-camp program that’s now 15 years strong, with thousands of alumni who were enriched by their DMA experience.

This summer, make it DMA!

Special thanks to DMA’s Rachelle Harding for coordinating this interview!
