DMA Course Profile: Jr. Adventures in Machines & Engineering

By Phill Powell

Is your young child (ages 6 to 8) into machinery and building things? Do they get a thrill when they’re able to assemble something and make it work?

DMA Junior Adventures campers discover how gears, levers and pulleys work together as machines.

If so, we’ve got the perfect way to keep them happy and learning all summer long – by attending DMA’s Jr. Adventures in Machines & Engineering tech camp.

With a curriculum specially designed for curious young learners, our engineering tech camps for young kids teach important STEM concepts. Plus, kids learn how to work together as part of a team effort.

SEE WHAT THEY CAN BUILD!

Our machines and engineering camps for young kids are all about doing. By using LEGO’s Simple Machines and Motorized Mechanisms sets, kids develop basic building skills, and enhance their motor skills, too.

Plus, it’s a field day for kids’ creativity because their imaginations get to run wild when they start building…using combinations of wheels, axles, gears, levers and pulleys to create basic machines that teach kids core engineering concepts. The sky’s the limit!

FUN…WITH THAT SOMETHING EXTRA

One of the basic lessons you learn when you run a summer tech camp for 15 years is that young kids must be engaged and entertained.

Our teachers are skilled educators who have previous experience teaching young kids, and they are supported by TAs who have a natural rapport with kids. And by keeping our student-to-staff ratio very low (6:1), your child isn’t just given a kit and left on their own.

FINDING THE RIGHT BALANCE

Smart moms and dads realize that good parenting is all about achieving balance – and finding that happy middle ground that pleases kids, and yet satisfies you as a parent.

DMA’s tech camps for young kids strike that balance, with plenty of cool fun for youngsters, as well as lots of structure, support and encouragement – just like you give them.

Another big plus about this day camp is that it’s offered in two configurations: as a morning-based camp that meets each day from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or as an afternoon engineering camp that meets from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This camp’s flexibility makes it ideal during your busy summer season.
