For DMA Success Story Alex Yu Chen Ni, the work paid off. He told us that he while he worked hard on his programming and app development projects, it was well worth it.
Alex is a 14-year-old from Surrey, British Columbia. This past July he attended DMA’s tech camps at UBC, spending part of his summer in way-cool Vancouver.
During his first week, he learned how to make apps for iPhone and iPad.
Then he attended a DMA Academy…one of our two week Java programming courses.
Alex has had a great time at DMA each time he’s attended, but let’s let you hear it from Alex himself:
THE DMA INTERVIEW: ALEX YU CHEN NI
What did you actually create at DMA tech camp?
I have attended DMA multiple times and some of my best creations are a Minecraft mod with swords that can shoot lightning, throw fireballs and enderpearls (2014). And a top-view shooter game that wasn’t exactly finished, but had a great concept and which I did finish at a later date.
How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final project?
I didn’t go bananas and celebrate or anything, I just felt that all the work was worth it and seeing my own creation working was extremely pleasing. (I also felt slightly relieved…because I was working very, very hard.)
What were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
Coding, learning new code and making new friends. We also had a blast playing games together during break time.
Did you make friends at DMA this summer?
Yes, I did. Around five or so.
Are you using what you learned at DMA now that you’re back at your regular school?
Yes, because I belong in a coding club at my school, and it greatly helps me.
Would you like to come back to a DMA tech camp next summer?
Given the chance, I definitely would.
I just felt that all the work was worth it and seeing my own creation working was extremely pleasing.
– DMA Programming & App Development Student Alex Yu Chen Ni
Would you suggest DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
Sure, why not? DMA is a fun place to be.
Were your parents pleased with your DMA experience?
My parents say that as long as I had fun and learned new things, they’re pleased. And apparently I had lots of fun and learned many new things.
UNRAVEL THE MYSTERY
Why do kids like Alex Yu Chen Ni keep coming back to DMA tech camps year after year? What makes DMA’s hands-on instruction so successful?
Find out for yourself this summer at our UBC campus. Or try one of DMA’s other tech camp locations across Canada and the U.S.
DMA has been running incredible summer tech programs for 15 years, and this is sure to be our best camp season yet.
We’ve just added new DMA camps and locations and the time to lock in your course selection is now, before classes completely fill up. (DMA keeps its class sizes small, so students can get plenty of personalized learning attention.)
