She’s three students in one! Katie Hogan has studied app development, Minecraft game design and animation at DMA. And next year…?

She took two courses during the latter half of July, spending the first week at The University of Chicago. Here she took DMA Instructor John Kaplan’s Introduction to 3D Animation with Maya.

Right on the heels of that, Katie spent the next week at DMA’s Northwestern University location, where she took Mark Dozier’s course on App Development for iPhone & iPad.

She’s enjoyed and has been enriched by three DMA courses and now plans to take at least a fourth. We wanted to find out what keeps bringing Katie back:

THE DMA INTERVIEW: KATIE HOGAN

What did you actually create at DMA tech camp?
I took two classes this past summer: 3D Animation with Maya and App Development for iPhone and iPad at Northwestern University.

Wow! Where did you take those?
Animation at The University of Chicago. App Development at Northwestern University.

My parents love DMA as much as I do.
– DMA Animation, App Development & Minecraft Student Katie Hogan

Cool. And what did you make?
An animation and an app.

How exactly did it make you feel when you completed your final projects?
I felt accomplished and happy that I was able to create an animation and an app and have a great time doing so.

What were the most fun things about attending DMA tech camp?
I enjoyed making new friends and learning new things with technology.

Did you make friends at DMA camp this summer?
Yes, I did, at The University of Chicago, in my Animation class. I made three new friends. I was disappointed that I did not take the two-week course, as a few of my friends did.

Maybe you can try that this summer. Would you like to come back to a DMA tech camp next summer?
Yes! Absolutely. I would like to do more animation because I was able to learn a lot and have fun while learning.

Are you using what you learned at DMA now that you’re back at your regular school?
Yes, from the coding I learned at the App Development for iPhone and iPad (Northwestern University) class, we do coding in a Computer Lit class…and I am able to utilize my new skills.

Would you suggest DMA tech camps to your best friends and their parents?
Yes, and I have before! I had two friends attend a Minecraft class in 2014 with me.

So were your parents pleased with your DMA experience?
Yes! My parents love DMA as much as I do. This past summer, classes were added for younger children and my little brother attended one of DMA’s Minecraft camps for kids while I attended the App Development class. He looks forward to returning again next summer.
