In a new international trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we get a better peek at the new Galactic Empire – now known as “the First Order.” We’ve seen this scene and the First Order before, but from the crowd…

The shot, taken from a grand podium (or base entrance), looks out and over the assembled troops. You can clearly see Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma and other shrouded figures that we guess are Domhall Gleeson’s General Hux, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and Andy Serkis’ performance-captured Supreme Leader, Snoke.

In the distance, you can also glimpse white-winged tie-fighters and smaller versions of the AT-ATs from The Empire Strikes Back. But you’ll have to look quickly; the shot only lasts a few seconds:

The massive formation of The First Order forces assembled in the trailer reminds us of the Nazi party rallies before World War II. Documentary film students may remember documentarian Leni Reifenstahl’s 1935 Nazi propaganda film, Triumph of the Will. That film influenced some of these shots and terrified past generations for the way it glorified the Nazi war machine.

It’s at the D23 Convention that J.J. Abrams is expected to reveal more info about the movie including how visual effects are made for the new Star Wars.
