When students come to a DMA tech camp, they never know what kind of cool surprises might be waiting for them, including getting to attend a sneak preview of a major Hollywood blockbuster.
That’s what happened for overnight campers attending DMA’s UCLA tech camp—they got the chance of a lifetime: to be the special guests of Paramount Pictures, the studio behind Transformers: Age of Extinction, at an exclusive preview screening in the heart of Hollywood.
Big ‘Bots, Big Fun
Transformers: Age of Extinction is a summer action fest about massive robots and the humans who are trying to control them…for good and evil.
While Mark Wahlberg headlines the movie, the real stars are enormous mechanized robots. Optimus Prime is back, along with other favorite Transformers robots like Ratchet and Leadfoot. So is director Michael Bay. This film is the fourth Transformers movie he’s helmed and is the longest running of any in the series. The action, like the explosions, is big, glorious and fun to watch.
For this special preview event, Paramount Pictures provided DMA’s UCLA campers with not only V.I.P. tickets to the event but Transformers-branded goodies, like snapback ball caps, movie posters and special Transformers collector’s glasses. Students answered movie-trivia questions as they were shuttled to the event at the ArcLight Cinema (located on Hollywood’s famous Sunset Boulevard).
How was the movie? As Transformers fans, DMA campers loved the movie and the chance to see it early. “Kids really liked the film’s intense special effects and CGI and talked about how incredible it is that filmmakers can achieve those effects now,” says DMA Resident Counselor Courtnee Robertson, who escorted the group.
“This led to a discussion about what parts of the film utilized green screen technology. Soon they were all talking about their DMA classroom experience making films!”
Getting to attend exclusive Hollywood movie previews is just another great “extra” that’s part of the DMA experience.
