Congratulations to the Los Gatos Fury soccer team, which recently battled a crowded pack of competitors to win the 2013 Cal Cup soccer tournament!
In a 2-1 squeaker against Elk Grove, the Fury captured the California North title for soccer played by girls under 13. Cal Cup is a Division 1 US Club Soccer-sanctioned tournament held in Sacramento. The team’s triumph capped an exciting weekend of final and semi-final matches.
Sponsored by Digital Media Academy, the Fury is coached by Phil Gibson, DMA’s president and founder. It’s just one of the ways that DMA gives back to the local community. “They’re great kids and it’s been super to see them work so hard this season and finally achieve their goal,” said Gibson.
Playing to Win
Soccer is part of Mr. Gibson’s personal DNA. In fact, he still plays at the club level and has developed a soccer camp specially designed to helps girls sharpen their soccer skills and improve their digital-design abilities. Adventures in Soccer, Photography & Graphic Design gives girls age 8 to 12 the chance to improve their soccer skills and their tech skills. Soccer tips are provided by local college players, while tech educators help campers create video games, movies, comic books and graphic designs in the classroom.
For any girl who loves soccer and digital media, this course truly combines the best of both worlds. DMA helps shape young winners, both on and off the playing field. Congratulations again to the members of the Los Gatos Fury! It’s been a real “kick” watching you this season!
